In Friday’s Weekly Spotlight we took a look at grasshoppers, an insect I’d never seen before (and wasn’t even aware we had!). I wish I could tell you this was a stand-alone case, but there are a multitude of endemic species that weren’t even vaguely on my radar before I had a garden.
To put this in context, let’s go back a few years…
Our garden started as a large lawn (complete with rugby posts!) and a hodge-podge border of trees and hedges. There were quite a few established trees and I remember that being a deciding factor when choosing this property, even though it wasn’t quite the location we were looking for. I wanted birds, and I wanted privacy: trees provided both.
