I’ve finally stopped obsessing over the meadow and am doing bits and pieces through the rest of the garden. Gardening is an ‘occupation’ that suits me well, as when I get bored of one task I can just move on to something else. There is always something else to do, or some new idea I want to put in place.
One section of the meadow is now cleared and seeded with a wildflower mix. Having this one area ‘done’ felt like permission to move on! So this weekend I have begun tackling what I have called the cottage garden. It’s a loose collection of different sized island beds, filled with annuals and perennials; edibles and ornamentals; natives and exotics. Logs that I’ve found around the property (or that were intended for firewood but are too rotten to burn) are used for the garden bed edging, and the paths are simply woodchip. Anything goes in th…
