I had a very good gardening weekend. There were so many birds, and a kahukura/red admiral butterfly that has decided it rather likes our garden. They need to soak up the sun for energy and I am learning the spots where I am likely to find them – the north-facing walls of our house and garden ‘shed’ (actually an old chicken coop that fell into disrepair long before we got our hands on it) are places I often see them, well out of reach of the many cats that visit our garden. The woodchip paths between the vegetable beds is another spot, and my wooden bistro table down the back of the garden that gets the sun throughout the second half of the day.
