Mōrena on this sunny Friday!
Continuing with practical steps to help pūrerehua (butterflies) this I ❤ Butterflies Week here’s your quick email to celebrate and take care of our little winged friends.
Step One
Recently I was at the local A&P show, and was chatting with a friend about butterflies. I mentioned that we have stinging nettle and that's why we get so many admiral butterflies. Sometimes just sharing a bit about your experiences, in person or online, can help spread awareness.
Step Two
… and in the garden, can you add a nectar plant in your garden to feed the pūrerehua as they travel? A couple of easy ways are to let a patch of lawn grow, or to let some of your veges flower. Our local butterflies love onion flowers!
I hope you are enjoying I ❤ Butterflies Week with me and looking forward to the Big Butterfly Count tomorrow.🦋
