Thereās been a lot of rain lately which has meant I havenāt gotten out in the garden much. I have been checking every day ā sometimes several times -Ā to see if the kÅwhai tree has bloomed yet. There are the conspicuous spots of yellow showing the flowers have emerged from their buds, but they are not yet fully open.
The birds have been checking, too. Iāve seen korimako and tÅ«Ä« flying into the boughs of the tree with fanfare, hopping around a few times, and then swooping off with a squawk of disappointment.
I have a photo from this time last year of a tÅ«Ä« feeding from the kÅwhai flowers; a classic shot showing its plumage off to great effect. Itās not great quality, though, and Iāve been trying to work out why this is. Last week I finally tracked down the original file and realised it ā¦
