Kia ora, welcome to the new Sunday premium newsletter - just a little highlight from this week in the garden with a gallery of images. I hope you enjoyed the monthly newsletter last week (I really enjoyed making it and look forward to putting together this month’s edition!).
On Friday I was visited by a solo traveller, a kahukōwhai (yellow admiral butterfly) who took a pit stop in our garden. It stopped to rest on the north-facing wall of our house for a few moments, took a drink of nectar from the nearby alyssum flowers, and then it was off.
Thinking about it later, I’ve decided it’s our coffee & pie equivalent: a bit of energy, and a bit of food!
It reminded me of something I heard in a documentary about gardening for wildlife: the point is not to attract wildlife in to your garden, the point is to provide for whatever part of the journey they are on.
